If you get an early start, have at least some idea of where you want to
go and don't linger too long in any one place, you'd be surprised at
how much ground you can cover. Ask sredd and nmatthews about how many spots we were able to hit in an afternoon...
Whenever y'all come down, if you need a guide just let me know and if my days off coincide with your visit we'll hit the town runnin'! |

OK, miamivice.info had the Grand Bay listed as a "Hit List" location, so I wanted to check with you guys before I tell them to correct it. I just looked, and you're definitely right. At 8:02, the camera pans out from the building, showing the car pickup area, with red columns and a circular pool. These features are then visible during the hit. When I make my second trip to Miami, I've got QUITE a list of places to go. It's hard to know where to begin! ===================================================== Armstrong's hotel Nassau Suites 1414 Collins Avenue Miami Beach |

That was filmed at the Atlantis.
At about 12:36 on the DVD, when Tubbs grabs the rifle from the officer and runs across the street toward the hotel, you can see the hotel's name "Nassau" clearly. A moment or two later, Tubbs stops at the front door (About 12:52) before rushing in. Once again you can make out part of "Nassau" on a sign at the entrance. Running through that hotel and ending up on Washington Avenue is impossible. There's an alley (Which I believe was used in several eps) that serves as the rear access to hotels and businesses on Collins and Washington Avenues. You'd have to exit the hotel in back, cross the alley, then go through the back door of whatever business it is whose front entrance is on Washington. Tubbs doesn't do any of that. P.S. airtommy, live a little - next time you're in town, let's go out to the Rickenbacker Causeway one night to get that night shot! ![]() |

1. When the Argentinian assassin Armstrong kills Castranova, this is filmed outside the Atlantis, right? It isn't filmed at the Grand Bay in Coconut Grove, is it? 2. Have we determined Armstrong's hotel (where they find the book with his hit list)? I watched this scene and noticed the Carlton Hotel in the background. Also, when Tubbs runs after him, he ends up on Washington Ave. The hotel is somewhere around 1400 Collins. |

To continue this thread, here's a picture I recently posted in Location
Trivia. It's from the end of this episode when Rico rushes to Sonny's
house to save him from the asassine (It's a night scene). A rare moment
for Rico, who gets to drive the Daytona!
![]() This is on the Rickenbacker Causeway, aka William Powell Bridge at this spot. In the Location Trivia thread airtommy inquired where this was and which direction the traffic is flowing in. For me, the key to where this was filmed is the pink facility building on the left side of the picture. You'll have to view this scene in slo-mo on the DVD to catch a glimpse of the same building. I did my best to replicate the same camera angle as in the episode, without getting run over by oncoming traffic! It appears to me that the road has been widened and divided since '84, so I would have to be standing somewhere in the middle of the road today to get the precise camera position! Traffic is headed east, the camera is facing west. Since this forum is all about Google locations, let's have a look at those. First, an overview of the area: ![]() X = Toll Booth X = Facility Building X = Camera Position (Approximate) Here is a closeup of the area: ![]() The X's are the same as in the legend above, although we don't see the toll booth in the second picture. I hope to go back out there and try this shot at night - but first I hafta git me a reflective vest and some other safety gear! ![]() |

Yeah, these pictures are absolutely phenomenal. Really, they are truly gorgeous. Miami looks terrific. A sparkling paradise. The pictires bring back a lot of memories...haunting, but in a very good way.

I don't know exactly when they put the fences around the courthouse,
but like so many places in Miami the courthouse has been under
renovation for the last year or so.
The two tall, white/turquoise buildings on the southwest side of the Atlantis (Left side of the pictures above) were NOT there back in the day. If I had my way I'd tear them down. I've been told that the occupancy rate in most of those buildings is something like 10 to 15 percent, so it shouldn't be too much trouble to relocate everybody. Move everyone in the taller buildings to the Atlantis and neighboring buildings, then tear those oversized ugly suckers down so we can have the original view through the center cutout! In the picture above which shows the blue side of the Atlantis, note that there are two shades of blue. The three columns closest to the water are a faded blue because they had not been repainted when that picture was taken. I'll try and drive by and see if they've finished yet, and take a few pic's if the weather is clear. About Jimbo's: If memory serves me right, I believe that somewhere on Key Largo - perhaps Card Sound Road - there is a place called Jimbo's, but it is not to be mistaken with Jimbo's on Virginia Key, the latter being where parts of "Glades" were filmed. |

I have two questions. By the way, those were great pictures. When did they enclose the Dade County courthouse with a fence and when they filmed Miami Vice was that big hotel in the background behind the Atlantis? I do not remember seeing anything behind the Atlantis during the credits.

I don't know how to answer in english. I'll try.
That day it happened an accident. Two workers fell down of the building on construction. A platform came of in the highly floor.
Biscaine Boulevar was cut for security and investigation.
There were a lot of police cars.
We think they had the hood up in cause of the hot. Is there no traffic at that moment. Two days the boulevard closed.
This is the other side of Atlantis Building:
![]() I didn't visit Jimbo's. But I think Jimbo's is on the way to Key West, it isn't?.

It's common practice to raise the hood while a police unit is stationary for extended periods to keep it from overheating. Chances are the officer was assigned to that location for traffic control, visibility and/or other reasons. |

The best part of the Freedom Tower picture is the police car broken down on Biscayne Boulevard, with the hood up - hah! That might actually be a traffic cop, hiding behind the raised hood with a radar gun.
I have nearly the same picture of the Atlantis, taken from the Rickenbacker Causeway. If I can ever afford a telephoto lens, I'm going to get a closeup shot of the Atlantis from the same spot. This building only recently received a fresh paint job - the southwest side of the building (The blue side, not visible in the picture above) is presently in the finishing stages of the repaint. I've been wanting to get a picture of that side but the scaffolding and such don't make for a good shot. While you were out on Key Biscayne, did you visit Jimbo's? |
