Aha, having just watched it, I suspected LoF was an attempt to kick-start 'Miami Vice: the Next Generation'. The storyline was hardly new - wasn't there an 'Inspector Morse' ep with a very similar one?

Mentioning 'The Cell Within' - does anyone get the feeling some of the later episodes especially the ones centered on Tubbs almost more belong in 'Star Trek'? No, maybe that is just me this time.

Great Pic KoVC! "Leap of Faith" certaintly was a leap of faith.....the only good part of Leap is the teaser, the acting is weak, the characters are weak and the cast (particulary the males) have little chemistry either as a team or as individuals.
21 Jump Street's 5 season run progression is almost on par with the progression of Vice from 84-89, many ppl like the first two seasons of Jump Street and the writing in Season 2 is strong, the tone is much lighter the first two seasons, whereas the 3rd Season the tone is much darker and the look is darker. Many ppl believe Jump Street peaks with Season 3, many ppl believe Season 4 was a transitional season for 21 Jump Street, particularly because of Johnny Depp no longer wanting to be a part of Jump Street and letting it show on screen, furthermore the scripts and direction were dull and usually uninspired compared to the previous seasons, but visually the show looks great. By Season 5 Depp is gone, Ioki is even gone, popularity fell which caused many Season 5 episodes to premiere in syndication. Sound familiar?

Oh, it's not that bad. This is nowhere near as terrible as "Cows of October" or "Miracle Man."

I actually think the first 5 or 10 minutes of Leap of Faith(where Crockett and Tubbs appear) are OK. It does have Guns N Roses' Paradise City after all. But then when it turns into 21 Jump Street/Beverly Hills 90210 with teenybopper cops and Rodney's son from Back To School as the villian, it's horrific, garbage, trash. Just unwatchable.
But I wouldn't call it the worst episode of Miami Vice because it's not Miami Vice. Miami Vice has these people in it:

The Cell Within for instance.... what the hell did they do during season 5? give leftover blow from the previous seasons to the writers?

I still need to find the right motivation to finish this dvd box.

I'm having  the same problem.  I keep getting  the  urge  to skip on to Freefall.

Oh lord my eyes are bleeading...Why...It was on last night...Leap of Naff....Why oh why did they make this stinking pile of dog turd...and attatch the name Miami Vice to it!....Even with Crockett and Tubbs in the first few seconds could not save this giant turd of an episode. It was episodes like this that ruined the name of Miami Vice. If i could id remove it from my DVD collection so as not to burn anyone elses eyes. So the end is near and we are jumping straight to Freefall P1 tonight....shame.

Pastelsuitsrock...

Eps I can't bring myself to watch again, even with the long-awaited crystal clarity of DVD: This stinker, Miracle Man and Cows of October. I'm still debating whether to watch Cell Within.

But get this: I have re-watched Missing Hours ... and actually sorta enjoyed it! (In a goofball, not-really-an-episode-of-Vice kind of way.)

I hated the Cell WIthin worse than any other episode until I saw Leap of Faith. I might actually watch the Cell Within Again but Leap of Faith....... was really awful and truly not worth watching again.

LOL, without a doubt "Cell Within" and "Leap" are the WORST episodes of Season 5. 21 Crap Street, indeed LOLLOLLOLLOL

Yeah Cops with head scarfs just plain suck. Johnny Depp had some pretty cool moments in 21 Jumpstreet but the guys in that episode stunk.

Just watched this ep. Ages away I know before we can review this ep in the discussion forums, maybe that's a good thing and I'll manage to forget how awful this ep was by then, cos at the moment I am about as close as I'll ever get to giving an MV ep 2 out of 10. What a shame.

This ep was so bad that it's one of the few eps from 20 yrs ago that I haven't seen since but had a clear enough memory about that it sucked - 20 years and I can't forget how bad it was... Cry

I told you - I'm a Junkie... yep Helena Bonham-Carter always gets the greatest lines...

Yeah, it seemed like they were setting up this episode to be a spinoff of sorts. It was pathetic and I'm glad it didn't evolve.

OK, guys. I said I didn't know how the writers could have managed to insert C&T into the college kid situation more. But they needed to be in the episode more...

Still, all in all, had Crockett and Tubbs been the guys on the inside of the college, something which I admit I don't know how they would have managed, this episode might even have been one of the season's best.

C&T or any of the Vice squad would've NEVER worked for "Leap of Faith". The whole point was that the professor was using his students, because he was in a more authoritive and adult like situation. C&T were too old buzzards to go undercover in that situation.

Could you imagine Crockett and Tubbs going undercover in a school? First image i thought was seeing Don Johnson dressed in a geeky look, a bit like in Golden Triangle. "Yes miss, Yes sir"
Even picturing Tubbs in a similar look seems kinda funny!

C&T were too old buzzards to go undercover in that situation. In a college, to get kids to trust you, and to nail a teacher who only controls the kids because he's the adult.

If you're gonna do that, you should've just rearranged "Leap of Faith" to exclude the undercover thing, and make it more about C&T trying to track down a designer drug maker, who's make kids turn up dead on the streets, and make it more of a homicide procedural.

Yeah I only liked the GnR scene too! I liked the crazy squinty look Crockett gave that man that called him heat in the bar. But aside from that, when I watched it, I was steady waiting for C and T to make their rescue appearance, that didn't happen so the epi sucked.

I think it was sopposed to be a spinoff. The characters weren't tight enough to survive. 21 Jumpstreet would have killed that shows chance, if it even had one.

It wasn't that bad. Who knows, a Vice-spinoff might have lengthened the run of the original.
