Hey, I just started watching season 4, and was just curious about something.

Was Dick Wolf let go after season 3? cuz I don't remember seeing his name in the credits in season 4. And I've noticed that the episodes are getting way better, and less boring than in season 3. I loved certain episodes in season 3 (Shadow In The Dark,Walk Alone,Streetwise,Theresa,Red Tape, etc) But a lot of the episodes I found less interesting than those from seasons 1-2. I found there to be a fun element about the first 2 seasons, which I found is back in season 4. I think the addition of Dick Wolf was the start of making the show more serious, and less about fun. But after watching season 3 it kinda left a bad taste in my mouth, and was unsure about watching more episodes. The way they ended season 3 was completely boring.

However, I just watched The Big Thaw, and was laughing my ass off. What a great episode! It was classic vice at it's best. I didn't like Contempt Of Court much, but the next 3 episodes after it were pretty good.

I hadn't watched much vice lately cuz season 3, although it had some killer episodes, had lost some of the fun factor for me, but now after seeing these few episodes, I'm watching the show more now because it's recaptured my interest. Can't wait for season 5 now.

I surely don t share your opinion. S4 is just so-so, with terrible episodes! Some are good though but S3, even darker is one of the best seasons!
So... Burnett... we meet again!

Well I thought I would like season 3 a lot better, and did for the most part, but it had too many filler episodes, which I found to be not very interesting at all. Seemed to be too serious, and not enough funny moments. I liked seasons 1-2 cuz it had balance. It had a good share of comedy, drama, action, etc but season 3 seemed to be all about drama, and not much of the other 2.

I just started season 4, so I could change my mind, but so far I've only seen 2 episodes that I didn't like much, which are Contempt Of Court and Missing Hours. And I heard that Cows Of October is a nasty episode too, but haven't seen it yet.

I'll see in the next few weeks though which season I prefer. As for right now though I'm leaning towards 4.
I'm finding that Crockett and Tubbs in season 4 look a lot better. Tubbs looks more rough with a beard, and Crockett looks more like a criminal with longer hair.
Season 3 they looked too clean cut.

Although I thoroughly loved season 3, I'm with Umberto about how they ended it. I can't help but saying that 'Heroes Of The Revolution', was not befitting of the season 3 finale.  Especially considering how the bulk of season 3 was superb(in my view), and the calibre of the other season finales('Lombard' was a very good ep and season ending, 'Sons And Lovers' and 'Mirror Image' are truly gripping, And 'Freefall' made an excellent last chapter for the series).

yeah, maybe that's why I thought season 3 wasn't as good. It started off slow, but once it got a few episodes in, I was loving it, and then something happened and it was lacking in a couple episodes, then it picked up a bit, and then dropped the ball again at the end of the season. I thought Everybody's In Showbiz would have been a better finale than Heroes Of The Revolution, or whatever it was called. I found the finale boring.

Usually I like when an episode revolves around a different character, like the one where Gina had that girlfriend who got raped? I thought that was a really good episode, and sad how it ended. It had everything. But this just wasn't a good finale at all. I loved all the finales I've seen so far, but this one wasn't even worth mentioning. But since you say that Mirror Image is good, and so is Freefall, it gives me hope that it will get better.

So I've renewed my interest with season 4. I'm liking it so far. I still love season 3, but just the ups and downs drove me crazy. Good episode, bad episode. It takes a little getting used to.

Dick Wolf worked on vice from SEASON 3 TO SEASON 5.

..And for many vice fans he ruined the show! I don't agree with this. Michael Mann left the show, handing it off to Dick Wolf--so mann is to blame. But I gotta admit, i like SEASON 3 a lot. Season 5 was very good as well. SEASON 4? Dung in a bag for the most part.

Trudy gets hotter and hotter each season.  See almost seems like a different person when you go back and watch S1.

Dick Wolf did assume command with some spotty episodes though--although there is some lame episodes in SEASON 2 as well. Mann was in command then.

I've come to believe there are two versions of the televison show. Both of them have a high degree of quality.

1st VERSION: This is the vice that looks and feels like an 80s retro celibration -- the iconic scenes that gave mv it's rep. when you see an all about the 80s show, like the one on mtv, you see scenes from the first TWO SEASONS --

2nd VERSION: The rest of the show: SEASONS 3 - 5 There is a lot quality here, but it is not celibrated on these 80s show like the famous episodes of SEASON ONE, TWO. These last three seasons (minus a bunch of season four) were great as well, just different.

Since I am 30 years old, I never saw the older seasons when I started watching the show. In my world, the daytona never existed, Crockett always had the Testerrossa....lol.

finales in miami vice after season two did go down hill. Season's four's mirror image was good, but season 3's finale wasn't anything special.

How come so many fans seem to prefer Trudy over Gina in looks ?

Gina did something to me man... woah! Especially when she dressed for the Street - like in the Savage or Streetwise...

Maybe it's cos she looks a bit like my wife (at least used to - but don't tell her that, eh...) Wink... LOL

Season 3 is a strange one - at least a couple of eps longer than any of the others - perhaps if they'd cut it by one or two eps they'd have found at least one semi-decent season finale ep amongst all of them. It does generally decrease in quality towards the end of Season 3 IMO.

Is Dick Wolf behind the entire S3 and S4? I've watched again some eps from S4 and couldn't find his name anywhere in the credits. From a certain point in S4 you read his name as co-executive producer, but before you have George Geiger instead...
Look! You might vaporize dissidents in Alpha Centauri, but in this precinct, we do it by the book!

Dick wolf was the man in command from SEASON 3 TO SEASON 4. He might have gotten advice and such; maybe some lessons in crime by michael mann, but mann left after two seasons because of his self-admitted small "attention span".

WOLF is in those credits, because I saw them. He also wrote almost all the stories. In the first few episodes in SEASON 1, Joel Surnow, right-winger and show creator of 24 was a story editor. He wrote HEART OF DARKNESS (story) CALDERON'S RETURN (teleplay) CALDERON'S DEMISE (teleplay) and many others....

ps/ I DO NOT have a problem with right-wingers either! ha! lol!

And SEASON 5, sorry. He is a successful writer/televison producer and such, but I just don't think he has the mind of michael mann, nor the abilty or the craft. I think he did a good job, but not a great one. For let us vice fans be honest: With a show that had the quality of vice, there is no reason it should have only lasted five seasons. NYPD BLUE lasted for over ten seasons.

It has always been my contention, that MIAMI VICE is the best show on american television to end as soon as it did. SHAMEFUL.  Everyone dropped the ball, but mostly the writers did. That and televison wasn't seen as the medium it is now, so good old don johnson had to go for his "film" career.

Now, really good adult actors are trying to get on television! Even more so with the advent of cinematic-television like HBO broadcasts...

Miami Vice was and still is, in my opinion, the best television police drama ever made.  There were some episodes that could have been better, but on the whole, It's the show I still want to watch over and over again.  I live in Seattle, but it keeps me coming to Miami to see filming locations.  I've made four trips there now in the past four years.  I did also visit some Caddyshack filming locations as well, but Miami Vice has a mood that just can't be beat.  It takes me out of my miserable reality of life and puts me in a fantasy of the 80's when things just seemed simpler and better.      Lt.Gilmore.                 "He has a taste for prime cuts, and his sneaker size is 10D."
